The current owner, Carlos Gibaja, who’s also a Quechua shaman, was introduced to late co-founder Bob Berman. Bob was a Canadian lawyer who was mourning the death of his wife who passed by cancer when she was 38 years old.
The search for answers led him to the Sacred Valley where he met Carlos. After Carlos showed Bob the holy region atop Mountain Antanuca, Bob was permitted to use his suffering to communicate with the “Apus”, or mountain gods. Bob received much-needed healing since he was open to what the spirits had to say. Berman fell in love with the people, the land, and the energy right away. When he asked about possible places to buy real estate, Gibaja sent him in the direction of a piece of land that had been in his family for many generations.
With the help of the local community and Carlos's shamanic guidance, Berman discovered healing and the motivation to offer others the chance for the same transformation. Berman's house was converted into StarDome with a focus on celebrating Indigenous roots, honoring cultural traditions and beliefs, and connecting visitors with the energies that radiate through the Andes mountains thanks to Gibaja's expertise in construction and architecture and the community's collective effort.
Star Dome was inspired by the same spirituality and force that Bob felt. Later, Bob and Carlos started looking for everyone willing to receive the same healing. Even after Bob’s passing, Star Dome staff keeps making room for him. As of right now, StarDome Peru only hires locals, donates a portion of its earnings to educational programs, and gives acreage for communal food and produce.
