Legend has claimed that the Inca Empire got its start here, in “La Isla del Sol” or Island of the Sun in English. Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, the first Incas, emerged from Lake Titicaca to establish a vast empire. The island has religious significance since, during the Inca era, virgins lived there to worship the sun god, also known as Inti.
This is why there are several places on the island where you can see the ruins, including the "Sacred Rock" and the Chinkana, which is a maze. Another must-see location is the Yumani Staircases, which lead to the island's upper region and a pre-Columbian water supply. 8:00 AM / Hotel Pickup
At the indicated time, members of our staff will pick you up from your hotel to start our adventure. We will head towards Khasani, a border city with Bolivia.
11:00 AM / Entry into Bolivia
After our journey to Khasani, we will cross the border at migration, so don't forget to bring your documents and passports.
11:30 AM / Copacabana
After completing all the necessary procedures, we'll be in Bolivia and will arrive in Copacabana in about 30 minutes.
12:00 PM / Isla del Sol
After a private boat ride of 15 kilometers, we'll arrive at the southern part of Isla del Sol. Once on the island, we'll walk for about 30 minutes to the archaeological site of Pilkokaina, a mysterious place of worship for the sun god, Inti.
Afterward, we'll descend the stone steps of the Inca Trail to reach the "fountain of youth". Along the way, you can enjoy the beautiful landscape of Lake Titicaca, the mountain range, and its surroundings.
1:00 PM / “Aphtapi” Lunch
The word “Aphtapi” comes from Aymara, meaning "to bring". The Aphtapi is a communal lunch where participants bring something to share and eat together. You will be able to enjoy this custom and delicious lunch in Wacani Bay.
2:00 PM / Return
After enjoying a delicious and traditional lunch, we will return via the same route, passing through Copacabana, Khasani, and finally back to Puno. We will arrive in Puno around 6:30 pm.
