Aymara Route

   Aymara Route

The "Aymara Route" offers the opportunity to explore often-overlooked archaeological centers in southern Peru. This adventure begins in Chucuito, where we will visit the archaeological site of Inca Uyo, also known as the "Temple of Fertility". Here, we will find the “chullpas” or funerary towers that the ancient Aymara used to bury their nobles.

From the pre-Hispanic era, also called “Molloco”, we can appreciate the square chullpas and the circular “waru warus”, which were agricultural techniques for land and water management that the ancient Aymara also used. We will end our tour by visiting the mysterious pre-Inca portal “Aramu Muru”, where you can absorb all the energy that this portal provides. Look at our itinerary for more information!

Itinerary Tour Chucuito – Molloco - Circular Waru Warus – Aramu Muru

7:45 - 8:00 h/Hotel Pickup

After a good breakfast, our tour will begin around this time, picking you up from your hotel and heading out from the city of Puno.

8:45 - 9:30 h/Chullpas of Acora - Molloco

Our first stop will be in the district of Acora, south of Puno. Here, we will see in detail all types of chullpas, both quadrangular and circular, as well as underground tombs and niches that are also significant compared to those in Sillustani.

9:45 - 10:45 h/ Circular Waru Warus

We will drive for around fifteen minutes to reach the Circular, also known as the "Andean Waru Warus," after seeing the chullpas of Acora. Among its many purposes, this pre-Inca laboratory from the Pukina period was used to enhance Andean grains, tubers, and domesticated edibles.

With five rings placed on top of each other. The center of this laboratory is called “the eye of god”, the Andean Waru Warus is round. Our guide will go into the significance of this location. After that, we'll travel to the enigmatic Aramu Muru, which is our next stop.

11:20 - 13:00 h/ Aramu Muru

About half an hour from the Waru Warus, right on the road connecting Peru and Bolivia, we will reach the mysterious “Aramu Muru”, a 7-meter high door carved into a giant red granite rock. Aramu Muru is a complete mystery as it is impossible to determine when it was created or who created it.

According to some calculations, this door existed in pre-Inca times, although there is no solid evidence to confirm this. Locals say there are spirits and energy around the area, making it very popular among travelers.

2:00-4:00h/ Chucuito, Temple of Fertility

18 kilometers south of Puno lies our next destination, the town of Chucuito. We will resume our journey from the main square, where we will see a curious alabaster stone clock from 1610 and a colonial-era church.

Next, we will head to “Inca Uyo” or the Temple of Fertility to learn about the architecture from the origins of the Qhapaq culture, the ancestors of the Incas. After a good lunch (not included in the package), we will return to Puno around 16:00 h concluding our service.
