Although this polished stone wall rises up to 7 meters, it is located in such a remote location that it wasn’t discovered until the 1990s. There is no information about Aramu Muru’s origins but it is presumably a pre-Inca structure that could be used for ceremonial purposes.
However, there are many theories revolving around this mythical place, but they all share one thing in common since the doorway it’s described as a transdimensional portal used by gods, heroes or even light creatures that vanish into the vast Lake Titicaca.

The mysterious gate is thoughtfully carved into a gigantic red granite rock at the Hayu Marca Stone Forest, located an hour away from the city of Puno. The site was discovered by a local tour guide in the 90s, who apparently had been dreaming about a similar place long before encountering it.
Although archeological research and excavations had been carried out on the site, there was no evidence about its origins or time of use. The structure is composed of a T-shaped alcove with a particular circular depression in its center - which for some, may be the ‘keyhole’ of a mythical artifact.
Therefore, the site has been open to speculation, where books have been written based on stories of ancient Inca communities and transatlantic tales. Nonetheless, the actual name of the site was lost long ago, and now it’s called based on one of the most popular folklore stories.
According to such tales, Aramu Muru was a man who fled Cusco during the Spanish conquest. He took a precious relic with him, a golden disk with healing powers, thought to be handed by the Sun God Inti to the Inca Pachacutec.
Aramu Muru knew that it had to be kept away from the Spaniards and made his way to the most remote location in the Andean highlands, that’s where he found an open portal, which he took and was never seen again.
