Tinajani Canyon Tour

The Tinajani Canyon is one of the hidden wonders of the Puno region, where towering walls and serpentine rivers just make it one of the most visually striking sceneries of the entire region.

Although many travelers would only think about Lake Titicaca while planning a trip to Puno, here’s a totally different attraction that you surely don’t want to miss.

This beautiful canyon has very intriguing rock formations, where some of them can reach up to 50 meters of altitude - or even more. The site offers the perfect setting for rock climbing, mountain biking, camping and more.

For those looking to travel off the beaten track but also wanting to know special attractions on the way, the Tinajani Canyon should be on your bucket list then. Explore the Andean highlands like an expert with this exciting excursion!

About the Attraction

The Tinajani Canyon is located about 100 km away from the city of Puno. The place sits on an elevation of 3,953 meters above sea level, composed of a 200-hectare valley with rising stone walls.

It took millions of years to create this natural masterpiece, where wind erosion and temperature changes managed to build an authentic scenery. The place also holds a mystical side, where the story tells that there was an extensive drought caused by a demon during Inca times.

Apparently, it was in the period of the Inca Pachacutec reign, who ordered the confection of three jars filled with cold water so the demon could bathe and get trapped forever. Locals say that when the nights are extremely cold, they can hear the screams of the devil coming from the canyon, spooky right?
