Make your way through the awe-inspiring scenery of the Andean highlands and rediscover a place full of mysticism and history that not many know about. Here you’ll get to know everything about the Chucuito Tour!
If you’re eager to experience Puno culture at its fullest, different communities have opened their doors to foreigners, where you can get involved in their daily lives and activities. That way, you would immerse yourself in the lively heritage of these Etnies that has lived on for centuries.
Puno offers the perfect setting for a more enriching travel experience, where traditions, natural wonders, and mysticism overflow across the entire Andean highland. Likewise, there are not only experiential tourism options around the city but also in Lake Titicaca itself.
The town of Chucuito has a distinctive catholic religious setting since many Spanish Jesuits moved here during the 1500s. They constructed several temples in this region, leaving an important historical and cultural heritage in one of the most remote locations within the region. Here’s what to expect:
1. Temple of Fertility
Also known as Inca Uyo Archaeological Site, it is believed to have been an Inca ceremonial center, where they worshipped the Pachamama. Although some theories say that it may have been a center where women were "cured" of infertility.
2. Old Town of Chucuito
As we mentioned before, this small town has a distinctive architectural style that harmonizes Andean and Spanish techniques. Here you can appreciate this authentic urban scenery as well as learn a little more about the history of the place.
3. Aramu Muru
Also known as Wilca Uta, it is a mysterious door carved in a stone more than 7 meters high. Aramu Muru originated different theories about its use during Inca times, where all highlight this place as a portal to another dimension.
4. Juli
It is one of the most picturesque towns south of Puno, located 79 kilometers from the city. Juli is known as "Little Rome" because of its beautiful religious buildings.
We’ll also get to know other attractions along the route that you simply can’t miss. The Puno region encompasses much more than you thought, and we want to show you everything about it.
