Rafting along the Utcubamba River

The Amazon rainforest can also thrill you with adventure sports. It has become a popular destination for adrenaline junkies. The abundant Utcubamba River starts in the central Andes and flows north to the Amazon. 

This river is 90 kilometers from Chachapoyas, recently it has become a popular destination for thrill-seeking adventurers. Keep in mind that you do not need prior rafting experience. The best period for you to visit the river is in April and May.

Canyoning at Cuispes.

Canyoning is a water sport where participants descend a ravine, canyon, or cliff. Participants must overcome many natural obstacles of varied complexity. Depending on the geography, you might encounter rocks, gorges, and breathtaking waterfalls. 

Techniques employed include jumping, scrambling, rappelling, swimming, and climbing. Throughout the journey, you'll be in touch with nature. where you'll see beautiful landscapes. They have diverse wildlife and plants, like orchids, birds, and butterflies.

This is a beginner-friendly activity, so prior expertise is not required. Participants are given equipment and technical training before they begin.

 The place where you’ll start your canyoning adventure is Cuispes, home to the Yumbilla Waterfall. It is the world's fifth-highest and Peru's second-highest. Some people say that the fall is approximately 900 meters tall.

To reach this place, you must first pass through the jungle. There are various bird species to see, including roosters, toucans, and parrots, you might also see monkeys or sloths. When you reach Yumbilla waterfall, you can descend beside it. You'll conquer physical challenges and use climbing skills, then, you can cool off in its lovely waters.

Trekking to Gocta waterall

Gocta is one of the tallest waterfalls in the world, with a height of over 700 meters, ranked as the third largest in Peru and 19th in the world. Many people visit this site each year, and what better way to do it than in a special way? 

Dare to walk through the lush Amazon rainforest and discover this natural gem. This trek starts in the town of San Pablo and ends in Cocachimba, covering a distance of 15 kilometers and different altitudes, the first at 2340 meters above sea level and the second at 1800 meters above sea level.

If you are unsure if the hike is too hard for you, you can hire a horse for the full 10 kilometers. For the circuit, you can hire a horse from San Pablo to the Upper Falls. Then, you walk to the Lower Falls and hire another horse from there, as the part between the Upper and Lower Falls is too steep for horses.
