Tucume Pyramids Tour

Tucume Pyramids Tour

Northern Peru was the birthplace to many important ancient societies that left a deeply-rooted legacy in these lands. Trujillo and Chiclayo, for example, were two of the most important regions during the pre-Columbian era.

Tucume is an archaeological site composed of several pyramids made entirely of adobe that were traced back to the XI century, belonging to the Lambayeque culture, located in Chiclayo.

As new political and religious powers arose in the region, these temples were adapted and used by other cultures such as the Chimu and Incas.

The pyramids are believed to have been a worship place; the first ones were constructed between 1000 and 1370 A.D. Later, the place was occupied by the Chimu people at some time between 1370 and 1470, to finally be conquered by the Incas until 1532.

Dare to uncover the secrets of these ancient civilizations and explore northern Peru like an expert. Our Tucume Pyramids Tour will take you on a back in time journey that you surely can’t miss. Learn everything about it here.

What to See?

1. Sican Museum
It offers a permanent exhibition with different thematic galleries that look to portray the most important aspects of the Sican/Lambayeque Culture.

The main attraction is the exhibition of the grave goods of an elite tomb excavated in Huaca del Oro, which highlights an impressive and majestic gold mask painted red, the winged eyes have emerald beads on amber, along with the large gold headdress with silver applications and feathers, a work of art of the goldsmiths of Sicán.

2. Tucume Pyramids
Tucume is an archaeological site located 33 km north of the city of Chiclayo, in the lower part of the valley of La Leche, northwestern Peru. It is formed by the remains of numerous pyramids or adobe huacas, around a rocky structure known as Cerro La Raya.

It was one of the administrative and ceremonial centers of the Sicán or Lambayeque culture, and dates back to the 11th century AD.
